Principal's Message

Greetings, Salaam, Bonjour, Washtay, Blossom Park Community!

On behalf of all of the staff at Blossom Park PS, welcome to school!

This is an exciting time of year for families as we prepare to transition your child(ren) to school either for the first time or after a long summer break!

Our custodial team, led by our amazing Chief, Lisa Simpson, has worked very hard over the summer to prepare the school for our students and community. We have freshly cleaned classrooms and work spaces to help set us up for a successful year. Teachers and staff have been in the school this past week preparing lessons and classrooms for learning!

We welcome several new and returning staff members to our team:

Roy Berger - teacher for the Behaviour Intervention Program

Ashley Camara-Rocha - Early Childhood Educator in room 122

Allison Downton - teacher of junior English to French Immersion

Katie Hoekstra - teacher of grade 1

Angela Lopez - teacher of junior Fench Immersion

Jessica Murch - educational assistant - mornings

Laurie Rodger - teacher of grade 2

Meghan Storey - teacher of junior French Immersion

Shahinaz Shohdy - teacher of French in Kindergarten - afternoons

Paula Wade - teacher of junior French Immersion

Colin Halsall - vice-principal

Jake Sirkka - grade 7 math - afternoons

Danny Shalom - grade ⅘ teacher

And, of course, I am also returning to the school team! I am passionate about education and love coming to work everyday. Some of my guiding beliefs are: 1) that behaviour is communication and so, as a staff, we need to pay attention to what a child is trying to tell us about their needs through their actions; 2) We encourage students to reflect on their choices with two questions: “Is it safe” and “Is it kind”; and 3) Strong family-school partnerships help all children be the best that they can be. If you would like to see me, my door is always open. Please call or stop into the office to arrange a meeting.

At Blossom Park PS, we have a strong focus on environmental practices and so we encourage you to help us keep our world a little cleaner sending students with reusable lunch containers where possible. We also strongly value equity and inclusive education and believe everyone belongs here. We will continue to create a safe, warm, and welcoming learning environment for your child(ren).

I am looking forward to a great year of learning!
